The 5th Annual Alternative Splicing - Special Interest Group meeting (AS-SIG), which is organized as a satellite meeting of the annual International Conference of Intelligent Systems in Molecular Biology (ISMB), will be held in Toronto, Canada, this year from July 18 - 19.

Genetic regulation by alternative splicing (AS) is a rich source of transcript diversity in eukaryotes, with critical roles in development as well as disease. The meeting aims to establish a permanent forum for scientists working on AS, focusing on questions that demand collaborative inputs from both experimental and computational driven approaches. We will address the latest results and questions in the exciting field of systems-wide eukaryotic gene expression, with a focus on RNA splicing and alternative splicing patterns, mechanisms and downstream consequences, and bridge the gap between biology and bioinformatics. The meeting will include studies of AS in humans as well as model organisms, reflecting the added biological value of comparative genomics, and discuss the goals of future investigations.

The Organizing Committee offers companies specialized opportunities designed exclusively for support of AS-SIG 2008. We seek sponsorship to meet expenses of invited speakers as well as to waive registration and accommodation fees for speakers as well as deserving participants who otherwise cannot attend the meeting.
